Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
Carmel Mar Thoma Youth Fellowship is an organisation which is part of the Carmel Mar Thoma Church, Liverpool. The organisation was founded 5 years ago, in 2011, for the church’s youth members to grow in maturity and help each other to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
Although still being a young fellowship group, the organisation is proud to be the host 3 youth conferences.
The first 3 day youth conference was held in 2012 at Quinta Christian Centre, Northern Wales. Youths from Liverpool & Manchester parishes attended this conference. The theme for the conference was ‘Marching to a different drumbeat’ – “Everything is permissible for me—but not everything is beneficial…” 1 Corinthians 6:12. The main speakers for the conference were Rev. Dr Jacob Thomas and Dr Sam George.
The second conference took place at the Cefn Lea Conference and Holiday Park in Newtown, Wales from the 27th to 29th June 2014. The theme for the conference ‘Lightened for Life’ was deliberated from Ephesians 5:8 “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.” The subject matters explored were very relevant for the youths of this generation and was easy to relate to. This 3 day conference had over 80 delegates involving the participation of youths from 7 Mar Thoma churches across England. Like the first conference the main speakers were Rev. Dr Jacob Thomas and Dr Sam George.
The third conference hosted by Liverpool youth fellowship was backed by the UK and European Region youth fellowship and with the suggestion of Rt Rev Dr Geevarghese Mar Theodosious Episcopa was called the 1st Mar Thoma Youth Conference of Europe. The conference took place at the Cefn Lea Conference and Holiday Park in Newtown, Wales from the 26th to 28th June 2015. The theme for the conference ‘Soar on Wings like Eagles’ was deliberated from Isaiah 40:31 ‘but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. “They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” The conference had over 125 delegates involving the participation of youths from 9 different Mar Thoma parishes and congregation across Europe. The conference was blessed with the presence of Rev Jameson K. as a speaker along with the well renowned authors and missionaries Rod Gilbert and Ruthie Gilbert.
Along with hosting conferences, the youth fellowship conduct monthly cottage prayer meeting and have also been an integral part in all of Carmel MTC, Liverpool’s activities. The fellowship is grateful to be able to do charities, such as food bank for the local community and other charity works in Kerala.
This organisation’s goal remains to help youths equip themselves for Christian fellowship and worship, to accomplish greater feat for the Lord’s kingdom and become role models for the upcoming generation.
