Rt. Rev. Dr.Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa

Parents: Mavelikkara Cherukole Attupurathu A M Issac and Mariamma
Born: on 1951, December 5
Ordained as Deacon 1976, May 29
Ordained as Kassissa 1976, June 9
Ordained as Ramban 1993, August 31
Consecrated as Episcopa 1993, October 2

Born at Attupurathu House, Mavelikkara, Kerala, had college education at Bishop Moore College, Mavelikkara and Banaras Hindu University and studied theology at Bishops College, Kolkota and Princeton Theological Seminary. Secured Ph.D. from Banaras Hindu University on the topic “Doctrine of grace in Vaishnavism and Christianity”. This helped in initiating inter – religious dialogue in the Indian context with people of other faiths. While being a lecturer at Mar Thoma theological Seminary was elected to be the bishop of Mar Thoma Syrian Church and consecrated in 1993.

Initiatives:

Started Navjeevan Centre in Mumbai, for the rehabilitation of Children from streets and red light areas of Mumbai.
Initiated educational programmes for children in the villages, especially of North India through “Gramjyoti Schools”.
Planned and implemented Child focused community development Programmes in the backward villages.
Monitored relief operations at the Earthquake areas of Lathur in Maharastra, Jabalpur in Madhyapradesh, and Bhuj in Gujarat.
Guides in the implementation of projects of KNH, World Vision, Compassion International etc.
Initiated Theological Education in the mission context in North India, through “Dharma Jyothi Vidya Peeth” at Faridabad, near New Delhi.
Organised inter – religious Dialouge programmes through NCCI at Varnasi,Hyderabad, Delhi and through KCC at Kottayam & Cochin.
